On 25 June 2024, the metaCCAZE project showcased its goal to promote zero emission mobility in European cities to the 2Zero Partnership. Maria Kamargianni, the technical coordinator of metaCCAZE, attended the 2Zero State Representative Group (SRG) meeting. This biannual event is a platform for discussing ongoing activities, future plans, and replicable initiatives.
Represented by Maria Kamargianni from MaaSLab, the metaCCAZE project actively participated in the 2Zero SRG hybrid meeting, held both in Brussels and virtually. This event allowed metaCCAZE to emphasize its dedication to sustainable transport solutions and its willingness to collaborate with various stakeholders in the urban mobility sector.
Maria Kamargianni highlighted metaCCAZE’s mission to revolutionise mobility in European cities for both passengers and freight through innovative electric, automated, and connected solutions. The project partners are developing a toolkit of six metaInnovations, which include passenger and freight services such as public transport, on-demand minibuses, bike and scooter sharing, and deliveries, along with supporting infrastructure like mobility and logistics hubs, traffic management centers, charging stations, and integrated transport and energy systems. These innovations will be demonstrated for a year in four trailblazer cities—Amsterdam, Munich, Limassol, and Tampere. Successful technologies and services will then be transferred and demonstrated for up to eight months in six follower cities: Athens, Krakow, Gozo, Milan, Miskolc, and Poissy, Paris, to ensure their transferability and resilience potentials.
A central feature of metaCCAZE is its commitment to engaging a wide range of participants, including citizens, visitors, commuters, and diverse population groups, in co-designing, testing, and using innovative mobility solutions tailored to community needs. Public authorities, transport operators, energy providers, vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, and telecommunications companies are also involved in the co-design process, known as metaDesign activities.
Towards zero emission road transport Partnership
The Towards zero emission road transport (2Zero) is a co-programmed partnership funded under the Horizon Europe programme and aiming at accelerating the transition towards zero tailpipe emission road mobility across Europe. 2Zero co-funds the metaCCAZE project, alongside with the CCAM and Cities’ Mission partnerships. metaCCAZE also participates in the CIVITAS Initiative, an EU-funded programme working to make sustainable and smart mobility a reality for all and contributes to the goals of the EU Mission Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
