As part of a collaboration between metaCCAZE and the MOVE21 project, partners from the City of Munich visited the the Business Region Gothenburg and the City of Gothenborg on 27 and 28 February . The two-day visit in the Swedish city was an opportunity to gain firsthand insights into innovative urban mobility solutions and sustainable logistics strategies, particularly in cargo bike logistics and micromobility.
Over two days, representatives from the City of Munich engaged in an intensive exchange in Gothenburg with partners from the European project MOVE21. The visit provided valuable insights, including a tour of the Mobility Hotel in Nordstan, a key part of the MOVE21 project.
Participants explored challenges and solutions for cargo bike logistics and micromobility through three site visits. These included Ahlsell’s unmanned self-service store in the Mobility Hotel, bike manufacturer and logistics company Velove, and one of Bravida’s “GreenHubs,” where facility maintenance services rely solely on bike logistics and e-scooters.
Key Takeaways for metaCCAZE
The exchange provided valuable lessons that will help shape the metaCCAZE multimodal bike logistics hub in Munich.
Key takeaways from the exchange highlighted the importance of a thorough cluster analysis and strategic communication plan to identify key stakeholders, address missing actors, and develop effective engagement strategies.
Strong local players play a crucial role, as their commitment goes beyond financial interests to genuine support for sustainable logistics.
Cities must also consider policies that make van and truck deliveries a second-choice option, encouraging more sustainable alternatives.
Integrating business models and services is essential, bringing businesses and bike logistics providers together to explore opportunities for transformation, growth, and innovation.
Additionally, new business models, such as joint ventures or public-private partnerships, are needed to ensure sustainable growth without relying on external funding.
