The Mission Cities Conference 2024 saw the enthusiastic participation of metaCCAZE and MOBILITIES FOR EU partners, fostering a spirit of collaboration and innovation.
On 25 and 26 June, mayors, city practitioners, national and regional representatives, and urban sustainability experts gathered in Valencia, Spain, for the third Cities Mission Conference. Valencia has been awarded the title of European Green Capital 2024 and was therefore the right choice to host the meeting.
To ensure a maximum degree of cooperation and synergy, the Cities Mission Conference was organised at the same time as the Energy Cities Annual Forum, the European Urban Resilience Forum (EURESFO), and Valencia Climate Week. The Cities Mission Conference put cities at the center, giving voice to both mayors defining strategic political guidelines and managers from the municipalities implementing measures to achieve climate neutrality.
In smaller working sessions, cities pitched cases for which they were interested in solution ideas and inspiration from other cities. In the session dedicated to transport, metaCCAZE city Milan pitched a case on their plans to implement ePods in Milan’s peripheral areas. Several groups — each taking a different perspective (e.g., Democracy & Participation, Infrastructure, Financing, Governance) — engaged in brainstorming activities to support Milan’s case.

metaCCAZE city Miskolc, whose Climate City Contract (CCC) achieved one of the best Completeness Check scores, and shared its insights with fellow cities.
The conference was an excellent opportunity to meet with related projects and initiatives. metaCCAZE showcased its work at a marketplace surrounding the event, sharing a stand with its sister project MOBILITIES FOR EU. It was an opportunity to discuss current topics that are relevant for both projects, also with CINEA representatives from the European Commission.
Many city representatives visited the stand and asked how to follow the activities of both projects. Participating in the event showed once more that projects like ours are not happening in a closed shop that is only relevant for the metaCCAZE cities. The audience of cities, industries, and research organisations interested in the activities of our projects is very large, and we cannot wait to share our first insights on mobility measures that can help cities use the huge leverage they have to contribute to the European Green Deal.
